Immediately adjacent to the railway line two pits were identified during Contract 3 testing on the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme. The half-sectioned portion of the first pit contained prehistoric pottery and some chert debitage. The second pit (1.8m to the north) contained a sandstone fragment with a central groove. A fragment of a possible grinding stone was found in close proximity to these features. Between both of the pits a small charcoal-filled stake-hole was identified. No other archaeological features were found in the adjacent test-trenches. It is possible that the construction of the railway line had truncated additional features associated with these pits.
