This site had been designated as an area of high archaeological potential during Contract 3 testing on the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme and therefore was one of the sites which had a predesigned testing strategy assigned to it. The site comprised the remains of a possible tailrace associated with a mill in Cloghristick townland. This feature appeared on the first-edition OS map of the area, and a possible medieval date was postulated.
Investigations identified the possible tailrace in the form of a substantial ditch orientated north-north-west/south-south-east. No finds earlier than the post-medieval period were recovered, but this does not preclude the possibility of it being an earlier feature. A more extensive area is to be investigated around this feature in the resolution phase of works.
