This report deals with the results of testing of Area 2 of Archaeological Services Contract 3, N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Scheme: Kilcullen to Powerstown. Area 2 ran from Russellstown to Moyle Big townlands. Fourteen areas of archaeological significance were identified (Sites 1–14: A021/016–29, see Nos 54 and 70–77 above and Nos 97–100 below). This site comprised a pit and a curving ditch excavated in Busherstown townland. The pit was circular in shape, 0.5m in diameter and 0.12m deep, and filled by charcoal-rich dark-brown sandy clay with frequent heat-shattered stones. The fill was similar to the material commonly excavated at fulachta fiadh. A curving ditch was exposed 3.8m west of the pit. This was broadly orientated on a north-west/south-east axis and measured 1.1m in width and 0.2m in depth. The ditch had steeply sloping sides and a flat base. No datable artefacts were recovered from either of the features.
