This report deals with the results of testing of Area 2 of Archaeological Services Contract 3, N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Scheme: Kilcullen to Powerstown. Area 2 ran from Russellstown to Moyle Big townlands. Fourteen areas of archaeological significance were identified (Sites 1–14: A021/016–29, see Nos 54 and 70 above and Nos 72–78 and 97–100 below). This site at Busherstown comprised a pit with evidence of in situ burning in the form of oxidised subsoil and charcoal. This was located within the centre-line trench of a field adjacent to an area of significant archaeological potential (see Nos 72–73 below, A021/022 and 023). The feature continued underneath the baulk of the trench and measured 1.4m in exposed length and 0.45m in width. The cut gently sloped to a concave base and the feature was filled by dark-brown silty clay with a lot of charcoal and small pebbles. The feature was 0.15m in depth at the baulk. No artefacts were excavated from within or around the pit.
