Monitoring was undertaken, on behalf of the Regeneration of South Armagh Group, to ensure that archaeologically significant deposits were not disturbed when installing an interpretative panel on the eastern banks of the River Blackwater at Blackwatertown. The panel was located within the vicinity of a no longer extant tower-house-style fortification within earthen ramparts built by the Earl of Essex in 1575 and represented on late 16th- and early 17th-century cartographic sources (SMR 8:50). No archaeologically significant deposits were disturbed.
