Testing took place at a greenfield site in advance of its development as a ‘park and ride’ scheme by the Roads Services (DOENI). A series of test-trenches and pits were located at various intervals across the site to determine if any archaeological remains would be affected by the impending development, particularly at the southern end of the site, where a church site (SMR 56:90), known as ‘Shankill’ or Old Church, is presumed to be located. The test-trenches all showed that the area has been heavily disturbed and infilled with rubble and building material relating to the construction of both the adjacent housing development and the M2 ‘Sandyknowes’ junction. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
