Trial test-pitting was undertaken on a piece of waste ground immediately north of the old Enkalon building, near the new Junction One retail outlet, west of Antrim. The test-pitting was requested in advance of further development and took place on 24 January 2005. The results showed that significant dumping of industrial and domestic waste on the land had occurred in recent years. This followed a period of truncation of the land surface and disruption to the subsoil, probably as a result of the construction of the Enkalon building. Only a small part of the plot, in the north-west corner, seems to have remained largely untouched, as a natural soil profile was noticed there. No archaeological features were encountered.
