Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of three wind turbines, crane hardstands, control room and access tracks was carried out on 13–15 September 2004 at Cronelea Upper, Shillelagh, Co. Wicklow. The site comprised the upper slope and crest of a 357m hill, which afforded extensive views over the surrounding countryside. A previously unrecorded circular enclosure, 25m in diameter, with 1.5m wide stone walls surviving up to 0.6m in height, was noted in an adjacent field to the west of the site. Topsoil-stripping revealed a black, peaty loam, 0.3–0.8m deep, overlying a very stony, orange silty clay subsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was discovered during the course of these groundworks.
