A pre-planning assessment was undertaken at a site adjacent to the medieval church of Tomhaggard, SMR 47:52. Five trenches were excavated and ditches were uncovered in four of these trenches, three of which contained medieval coarseware. A wide east-westoriented ditch was uncovered in Trench 5. This feature, which was over 7m in width, contained sherds of medieval coarseware as well as imported medieval pottery. These ditches appear to delineate the church boundary on the northern side.
