A test excavation was carried out at the rear of No. 19, The Quay, New Ross, prior to the construction of an extension to the building. The property lies within the zone of archaeological constraint of the historic town and is part of a row of similar structures that were probably erected in the 19th century. Three test-trenches were excavated.

The soil profile was similar across the investigated area and consisted of successive dump or fill layers. The basal layer was made up of a redeposited subsoil and it contained some building debris. The layer above this also appeared to be dumped material and contained a moderate amount of small to medium-sized stones, patches of mortar, roof slates and pieces of red brick and tile. It is likely that the bulk of this activity took place in the mid19th century during expanded development of the quay area. No features or finds of archaeological significance was uncovered.
