Testing of a site adjacent to St Stephen’s Cemetery was undertaken in March 2004. St Stephen’s Cemetery may be the site of an Early Christian church. Testing revealed a system of furrows that contained North Devon ware as well as abraded medieval pottery. Several undated gullies were also present. The testing suggests that the church site did not extend beyond the present circular enclosure.
