The site lay near a ringfort (SMR 46:48) at Danescastle, Carrick-on-Bannow, and the grant of planning permission required monitoring. The proposed development was for three houses. It was decided to proceed with two houses first and the third at a later date. The site of both houses was initially stripped of topsoil to a depth of c. 0.2m, exposing a yellow/grey compact marl boulder clay. After the topsoil was removed, a number of shallow field furrows were visible in the subsoil. These furrows were cross-sectioned in a number of places. They measured 20-80mm deep, containing a small amount of modern glass, stone and plastic. The furrows are likely to have originated from modern agricultural cultivation. No features of any archaeological significance were found and all the objects recovered were of modern date.
