The N52 Billistown scheme involves the realignment of 2.5km of national secondary road between Mullingar and Delvin. The northern end of the scheme is 1km south of Delvin village and the new alignment is east of the existing N52. The total width of the carriageway will be 13m. Monitoring of topsoil removal was undertaken between Claddagh crossroads and Ballynacor Bridge. An area measuring 1.2km by 13m wide was stripped revealing subsoil at depths of 0.25-0.4m below ground level. No archaeological features were recorded within the road-take.
