Assessment, including testing, took place at a proposed residential development at No. 36 O'Connell Street, Waterford. One trench was excavated at the rear of the property. In it the gable wall of an outhouse marked on the OS map of 1870 was uncovered. The wall was subsequently reused to form a manhole that was in use until the early 20th century. Pottery from the underlying silts indicated that the site was first developed between c. 1700 and 1750. The wall was not removed by the development and was incorporated into the slit foundations.
