As part of the refurbishment of a late 19th/early 20th-century building in Henrietta Street, Waterford, the concrete floor was removed and a pit was cut to accommodate a lift. The remains of a narrower post-medieval building were found (rear wall, brick chimney stack, scraps of internal walls) in the present walls and under the floor. The lip of a stone cesspit and surrounding stony surface under the earlier building (ground level 1.2m below present floor level) may be high medieval. The site is well inside the medieval city, which was originally beside the River Suir.
