Monitoring was undertaken (9β16 January 2004) associated with the development of an apartment at Grubb's Lane, Waterford. The proposed development (150m2) previously consisted of a modern one-storey structure and concrete yard. Foundation trenches associated with the development achieved depths of 0.8m and widths of 0.6m. In the course of the monitoring, disarticulated human and animal remains were recovered in previously disturbed medieval levels. It was agreed after discussion with the Heritage Services that the excavated soil would be sieved off-site to retrieve all materials pertaining to these levels. In the event, two sherds of 13thβ14th-century local ware, some seashells and the skeletal remains of eight adults were recorded. The adults were between 17 and 65 years of age. One 10β13 year-old child and a foetus were also found. The animal bones consisted of one horse, three cattle, three pigs, two deer, one sheep, three dogs, one bird and one fish.
