Works at a farmyard beside Mothel Abbey, a ruined Augustinian house with a reputed 6th-century predecessor, were granted planning permission on condition that an impact assessment was prepared. The site for a new slatted house had been quarried into the hillside in the recent past, removing any potential archaeological material, but the route of a new trackway around the quarry had only been top-soiled. A metalled surface on a terrace exposed in the footprint of the track may represent peripheral medieval activity at the edge of the abbey precinct.
