The proposed development site lies downslope and across the road from Kilgobnet church and graveyard. Test excavations were carried out at the site on 21 and 22 of November 2004 as part of an archaeological impact assessment. The test-trenches identified archaeological features that are likely to have been associated with buildings and garden walls recorded on the 1841 OS map of the development site. However, no conclusive dating evidence was uncovered associated with these features. The only finds recovered were a couple of sherds of creamware and some modern china from the topsoil. The buildings on the site were still roofed when surveyed in 1841 and it seems likely that they were built in the 18th or early 19th centuries. No earlier archaeological features were identified in the trenches.
