The development site is located within the bounds of the zone of archaeological potential for Dungarvan. Daniel Noonan had previously carried out testing along the footprint of a proposed development immediately south of No. 6 Church Street at the site of the former Sisters of Mercy convent (Excavations 2002, No. 1785, 02E0439). Sediments uncovered at a depth of 0.2-0.3m below the existing ground level were interpreted as being representative of a relatively intact medieval streetscape, preserved by default from the impact of 18th- and 19th-century redevelopment. It can be postulated that such sediments extend beneath the foundations of the property at No. 6 and to the west/rear of this property.

The rear of the property was cleared to a depth of c. 0.4m in advance of construction of raft foundations. A dark, pink/brown, silty clay prevailing across the eastern and middle extents of the development site was recorded. The sediments present to the north and west of the site were truncated by the laying of service pipes and by garden cultivation. Similarly, groundworks associated with the now demolished western extension to the house would have disturbed any potential archaeology at this location. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded.
