Test excavation was undertaken in advance of the proposed development of this site as a private hospital. Sixteen trenches were mechanically excavated across the site.

Prior to testing, a walkover survey and desk assessment was undertaken, which highlighted an earthwork at the north-west corner of the site as the location of a possible burnt mound. Testing of this earthwork indicated that it was a natural knoll. No archaeological features or deposits were recovered from test-trenches excavated across the remainder of the site. The occurrence of blue reduced clay covered with a thin layer of peat in the central area of the site would suggest that, prior to improvement, the site held a body of standing water, possibly a small lake or marsh.
