Waterford County Council requested monitoring of all groundworks on the development site, due to its proximity to Newcastle parish church and graveyard (SMR 16:26), the site of a castle (16:25) and an enclosure (16:24). Monitoring was carried out between 6 and 15 December 2004. An area of fire-reddened clay and some backfilled hollows were uncovered in the footprint of the house but on investigation were considered to derive from clearing scrub and improving the land for cultivation. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
