Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a house and garage was requested because of the site's proximity to a circular enclosure (SMR 16:24), the site of a castle (SMR 16:25) and Newcastle parish church (SMR16:26). Groundworks were monitoring on 27 February 2004.

The sod and ploughsoil were removed over the floor area of the house, garage, septic tank and along the drive. This uncovered the remains of a post-medieval field boundary bank and ditch crossing the footprint of the house. A field boundary is recorded in this position on the first-edition OS map. No other features of archaeological interest were recorded and no finds were recovered.
