Four test-trenches were mechanically excavated at this site; Trenches 1, 3 and 4 revealed nothing of archaeological significance. However, Trench 2 uncovered the terminal of a medieval V-shaped ditch with several silted fills, including one of redeposited subsoil that may be indicative of bank slippage. Most fills contained both local and English pottery dating from the mid-13th–14th centuries. Not enough of the ditch was revealed during testing to give an indication as to whether it was curved or straight or if the opposing terminal survived; the archaeology appeared to be confined to the north-east portion of the site. The developer intends moving one of the houses that currently impacts upon the archaeology a few metres further west to preserve the archaeological remains in situ.
