It is proposed to open out an entrance way and shops to Wine Street, from the Quay Street retail development to the north, in Sligo town centre. The development lies within the confines of the zone of archaeological potential associated with the town.

Testing took place across the footprint of the development area by means of a series of machine-excavated trenches. The results showed that the construction of the previous building on the site, which had housed the Sligo Champion newspaper, had removed any traces of significant archaeological deposits.
