Pre-development testing was carried out on 23 March 2004 at a proposed reservoir site at Rathmoney townland, near Ballintogher, Co. Sligo. The proposed development was located within the constraint for two ringforts, SMR 21:74 and 21:75.
The testing comprised the excavation (by machine) of four trenches, which measured 17.8m, 11.7m, 11m and 10.5m long, respectively, 1.2–1.6m wide and 0.2–0.6m deep. Below the topsoil in all four trenches was orange/grey/brown firm to plastic clay that contained occasional naturally decaying rocks. No artefacts were recovered during the testing. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
