Testing was undertaken pursuant to granted planning permission to construct nineteen houses and carry out associated site works at Gorteen. The site is close to an enclosure.

Eleven trenches were opened on the site, none of which revealed any features of archaeological provenance. Two linear features identified prior to testing were investigated and proved to be land drains. Two circular features visible on the surface were investigated through the cutting of two test-trenches. As there was no evidence of these features below ground level, they were considered to be agricultural vagaries. No other features or anomalies of potential archaeological potential were located on this site.
