The proposed development, to consist of a new access c. 60m in length for a sewage treatment plant, is located on the outskirts of Cloonacool village. The closest known archaeological monument is a ringfort, SMR 31:25, 200m north-west of the site. All excavation work associated with the proposed new access was monitored in February 2004. The site is very reedy and waterlogged, with very thin friable brown topsoil, 0.12-0.18m deep. It rested atop a compact mid-grey natural clay. No archaeological remains were revealed during the course of the excavation.
