Testing was undertaken pursuant to granted planning permission to construct a dwelling house and carry out associated site works in the townland of Carrigeens.
Four trenches were opened on the site, none of which revealed any features of archaeological provenance. Two features were discovered during trenching: a stone dump and a north-south-aligned ditch. Both features were cut from within the topsoil and were of modern provenance. One of the features appears to have been a soak pit associated with cattle rearing, dating to the pre-slatted shed period. The other feature was a shallow field drain.
