Testing took place due to the presence of a holy well, known as St Coman’s Vat, on the site. During testing, a cluster of three features was noted in approximately the same location as the RMP site. The holy well, on excavation, was shown to be a natural spring. Some effort had been made on the northern side of the spring to even the edge and stabilise it. The spring was filled with an organic waterlogged black soil that contained modern ceramics and plastics. The edges of the spring on its southern and eastern side had been greatly disturbed by root activity.
Directly to the north and south of the spring were two pits. They were subrectangular in shape, with the southern pit measuring 2.1m in length and 2.3m in width; the pit to the north was 1.69m long and 0.79m wide. The sheer sides of the features may indicate that these are sockets for monuments put in place to mark the location of the spring. No artefacts or other datable material was recovered from the fill of the pits.
