The site of the proposed development, to consist of an extension to the existing butcher’s premises, is on the south side of Lanesborough Street, near the junction with Castle Street. It lies within the zone of archaeological potential of the medieval town of Roscommon. Two trenches, one measuring 1m by 1m and the other 8m by 1m, were excavated by machine in August 2004. The depth of the trenches varied from 0.3m to 0.4m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered.
