The site of the proposed development, to consist of a single house, access, garage and septic tank and percolation area, is located just outside Tulsk on the Roscommon road. The site is near a ringfort and ancient field system. Testing took place in June 2004. Four trenches measuring 10m by 1m were excavated across the site to a depth of 0.3-0.45m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered, with the exception of an irregular cut feature near the eastern end of Trench 4. The feature measured 2.45m east-west by 1.4-0.9m wide, extending south beyond the limit of the trench. The fill consisted of a light-brown clay, similar to the topsoil, with some slight evidence of charcoal flecking. It was cleaned and left in situ and the proposed percolation area was moved to avoid it. Later in 2004, all topsoil removal was monitored. No further evidence of archaeological activity was revealed.
