The site of the proposed development at Drishoge, a supermarket and parking facilities, access and services, is on the N4 Sligo-Dublin road on the outskirts of Carrick-on-Shannon on the Roscommon side of the Shannon. The closest known archaeological monument is SMR 11:22, a ringfort, situated 300m to the south-west. Six test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural in December 2004. There was no evidence of archaeological features or finds in any of the trenches excavated.
