An archaeological and architectural/visual impact assessment took place for a proposed housing development site located outside the town of Edenderry, Co. Offaly. Fourteen single-storey dwellings with car parking and an access road are to be constructed on the development site.

Seven trenches were excavated, three within the footprint of the proposed houses, three along the length of the proposed car parking spaces and one along the proposed access road. Three features of possible archaeological interest were found to be of a recent date. However, a structural feature, possibly associated with the outhouses or garden features related to the union workhouse, which was located close to the development site, was uncovered and partially recorded. This comprised a stone wall consisting of square limestone blocks recorded for a length of 2.9m. Further assessment was recommended to determine the date and significance of the wall.
