Pre-development testing took place at Eden Road, Birr, Co. Offaly. The proposed development site is located adjacent to the zone of archaeological potential, to the rear of a row of early 19th-century labourers' cottages listed as protected structures in the Birr Town Development Plan (2004). The proposed development comprises the construction of four one-bedroomed apartments with associated works and an entrance from the road. Three trenches were excavated using a JCB with a 0.8m-wide toothless bucket. No subsurface features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered during testing.
