This site was identified as the result of a programme of topsoil-stripping undertaken in December 2003 to June 2004 (No. 1363 above, 04E0089). This monitoring area was between Chainage 16.880 and 17.680 of the proposed N2 Carrickmacross-Aclint road realignment.

The site consisted of a badly disturbed deposit of burnt-mound material measuring c. 5m by 5m. This site was located at the edge of a small river/stream halfway between two previously excavated burnt mounds in sites Monanny 1 and Monanny 2 (Excavations 2003, Nos 1503 and 1504, 03E0888 and 03E1254). The Monanny burnt mounds were well defined; they contained troughs with elements of timber lining and additional features such as hearths and pits/post-holes. The site at Cloghvally Upper 2 may have been associated with these sites.
