Planning permission to construct a dormer house with new entrance, septic tank and associated percolation area was granted with a condition of monitoring of ground disturbance. A souterrain (SMR13:2) is situated c. 30m west of the entrance to the development.
A very thin layer of light-brown clay lay underneath the sod. This was very stony and dried to dust as soon as it was exposed. In other places bedrock was exposed immediately under the sod. This was soft shale that fractured immediately during excavation. The house foundations were cut through this stratigraphy of clay and bedrock. Archaeological material was not observed and no artefacts were recovered.
