The proposed N3 Navan–Kells road alignment commences at the end of the N3 Navan town bypass in the townland of Ardbraccan and passes through the townlands of Grange, Phoenixtown, Ballybeg, Athgaine Little, Nugentstown, Cookstown, Cookstown Great, Kilmainham and Gardenrath, terminating at the N52 Kells-Mullingar road in the townland of Calliaghstown. The proposed road crosses over the River Blackwater twice in the townlands of Balgree/Derver (Site 10) and also in the townlands of Whitecommons, Archdeaconry, Glebe and Cakestown (Site 17). A tributary of the River Blackwater is crossed in the townlands of Pottlebane and Woodpole (Site 11) and the River Martyr and one of its tributaries are crossed in the townlands of Ballybeg (Site 15) and Nugentstown (Site 16). A possible archaeological feature identified at Site 11 comprised a large mound of stones with a stream tributary of the River Blackwater encircling it. Two of the river crossings situated on the Blackwater River (Sites 10 and 17) could not be surveyed, as the water was too deep and the flow too strong. An underwater survey of these sites will be carried out at a later date.
