Monitoring was carried out at a number of locations along the new ESB Navan–Gorman and Gorman-–Drybridge 110kV lines over or in the vicinity of the townlands of Causestown, Dunderk, Graigs, Harmanstown, Mullagha, Rathcoon and Scottstown, Co. Meath. The two new lines connect into an existing ESB substation in the townland of Causestown and are located either side of an existing 220kV line from Louth to Maynooth.
Monitoring comprised machine-excavated test-trenches at the location of each pole (twelve sets of two poles per line, or 48 individual holes). A JCB was used to excavate an area measuring 0.5m wide by 2m long at each location. No archaeological finds or features were located along the route of the lines.
