An assessment of Testing Area 2 in Contract 3 of the Clonee–North of Kells PPP scheme was undertaken on behalf of Meath County Council. The development in this area is located south of Navan town and links the proposed Kilcarn interchange to the existing N3 Dublin–Navan road, via the proposed Kilcarn road. The testing methodology generally consisted of mechanically excavating 2m-wide test-trenches along the centre-line and perpendicular to the centre-line to the edge of the land-take every 20m.
A total of 63 test-trenches were excavated in Testing Area 2; 4522.7 linear metres of test-trenches were excavated along the route of the proposed road in this area. The features recorded in the assessment consisted of two burnt spreads, three pits and two ditches. They were all located in the same field (Plot 2112.2). This site has been provisionally designated Kennastown 3.
