The proposed development site comprised two individual plots, one of which was derelict and a second which contained a house. Both plots contained various standing buildings and densely planted areas, which were not accessible for trenching but which are likely to have been severely impacted upon. A significant portion of the derelict plot had been disturbed in the past, with the level being raised by 1.5m in places by dumped deposits of building rubble and vehicle debris. Ten test-trenches were mechanically excavated within the site but did not identify any archaeological remains. Stratigraphy in all cases was topsoil/overburden over natural subsoil. Subsoil in the area consisted of compact yellow/brown boulder clay over grey/brown coarse sand deposits.
