The Belcarra Group Water Supply Scheme involved pipelaying in and around Belcarra, Co. Mayo. The monitoring of these works began in January 2004 and is ongoing at the time of writing. The scheme is c. 55km long and the pipeline wayleave varied from 15m to 25m in width. The pipeline was laid within undulating pastureland, low-lying marsh, existing roadway and roadside verge. The pipeline was diverted away from 28 known monuments that might have been affected by the scheme. In addition, eleven new fulachta fiadh have been encountered to date during monitoring of the scheme.
