A limited excavation of a human burial was undertaken in the townland of Lisdoo, Co. Louth, in advance of a proposed residential development. The remains were exposed during the initial groundworks (trial pits) associated with the proposed development. An emergency excavation wasundertaken to facilitate the removal of the human remains.
A small area measuring 2.95m by 0.92m was opened up in the immediate area of the exposed portion of the remains. A single east-west-oriented inhumation burial was exposed within a shallow grave-cut. Additional human remains recovered from the ploughsoil around this grave indicate the presence of another disturbed burial in the immediate vicinity. No further groundworks were planned at the time of writing.
