A metal-detecting survey commissioned by DRD Roads Service was carried out in Aghnaskeagh Stream in Drumnasillagh and Aghnaskeagh townlands in an area that will be impacted on by the proposed A1/N1 Newry–Dundalk link road. Metal detecting was carried out along the stream between Chainages 10750 and 10950.

Although previous survey work had determined that there were neither fords nor other structures present in the stream, there was the possibility that small artefacts could be embedded in the riverbanks and bed. Aghnaskeagh Stream was very shallow at the time of metal detecting, being only c. 0.3m deep, and was more like a sheugh than a stream. The banks had been badly trampled by cattle. Visibility was good during the metal detecting. Nothing was recorded.
