An assessment was carried out, as it is proposed to construct a dwelling house in the garden of 16 William Street. The site of the proposed development was depicted as an open space on all maps consulted (dating between 1574 and 1908) and no structures were identified. Three test-trenches were excavated. Garden soil was exposed in all trenches. The majority of finds recovered consisted of post-medieval pottery, although the occasional sherd of medieval pottery was also recovered. Each trench was excavated to a maximum depth of 1.7m. Natural subsoil was identified only in a small portion of Trenches 1 and 3.
