The proposed development site is in the townland of Moneymore in the medieval town of Drogheda. Drogheda Urban Council propose to undertake a programme of works that will create four open spaces or mini-plazas within the street corridor at West Street and Laurence's Street. These four spaces will be located at Patrickswell Lane, St Peter's Church, the Franciscan church and St Laurence's Gate respectively.

To date, only preliminary site investigations were carried out. Slit trenches were excavated in November 2004 at various locations across West Street and Laurence's Street in order to locate service pipes. No features of archaeological significance were identified and no finds were recovered. The trenches were excavated to an average depth of 1.25m and had an average width of 0.6m. The main phase of site works will not commence until 2005.
