The site is located immediately outside the zone of archaeological potential of Drogheda and outside the medieval town wall. Testing was carried out in advance of the proposed construction of five townhouses. A modern house was to be demolished as part of the proposed development.
Testing took place on 18 and 19 November 2004. This involved the manual excavation of one trench, 7.5m long east-west, across the footprint of three of the proposed houses. Testing failed to reveal any archaeological features. The only finds recovered were of modern origin.
The level of the modern house, at the west side of the proposed development area, is c. 0.3m lower than the base of the test-trench and therefore appears to have been dug into geologically deposited strata. As a result, it is considered unlikely that any archaeological remains would exist in that area.
