The site of the proposed development, the construction of 32 houses and related accesses and services, is located just off the main Dublin–Sligo road, on the outskirts of the village of Newtownforbes. Six trenches, measuring 100m long and 1.25m wide, were excavated east-west across the site in February 2004. There was no evidence of archaeological activity.
