The proposed development, within the town of Longford, is to consist of an enterprise centre involving a large block of buildings, parking and services. The site is within the bounds of the 'site of' a castle. Monitoring of excavation works took place in August 2004. The sod and topsoil consisted of a rich brown clay with small stones and some modern crockery. It ranged between 0.2m and 0.3m deep. This layer rested on a compact, light-red/brown natural clay with gravel inclusions. A number of furrows were revealed across the site, most of which contained redbrick and early modern crockery. No archaeological features or finds were revealed during the course of the excavation. There was no sign of the potential castle.
