The year 2004 saw the completion of the excavation of the deserted village at Granardkill. In 2003 the remains of what was then interpreted as a corn-drying kiln turned up in Area B towards the end of the excavation. The short 2004 season was given over to completing the excavation of this structure.
It became clear that the feature was not the remains of a corn-drying kiln but that the length of drystone-walled passageway (which had been heavily burnt at its entranceway) was part of a souterrain. This souterrain had been completely filled in at some stage after it fell into disuse.
