Testing was carried out on 16–18 June 2004. The development is located on the site of a possible castle site/deserted settlement. The development was an extension to the school grounds to the north, south and east of the school which was centred in the middle of the site. Eleven trenches were opened using a track machine with a 1.7m-wide flat toothless bucket. The site appears to have been heavily disturbed in recent times due to the construction of the housing estates in the enclosing Moyross area. The topsoil was very thin in most trenches and revealed a large volume of recent building debris and scattered refuse, possibly due to construction activity in the area and the site in general having been used as waste ground prior to development. Nothing of an archaeological nature was encountered.
